Becoming A Morning Person

Do you struggle getting up in the mornings? Are you one of those who sets 4 alarms ten minutes apart and presses "snooze" on all of them? I'm here today to help you! I am most definitely more of a morning person than an evening person. I love getting an early night, sleeping for 8-11 hours and then waking up bright and early in the morning to start my day and have more hours doing something throughout the day instead of spending more hours asleep.

However, when I was in high school, getting up is one of my biggest struggles. Although this was probably because I absolutely hated school and never wanted to go in, so knowing I had school the next morning made me sigh. But, I have grown up! I love every day that comes around and being at University is so much better than my high school years.

If you want to know the best tips on how to become a morning person, then carry on reading;

Go to bed earlier
Let's just get straight to the point, the easiest way to be a morning person, is to simply go to bed earlier. By going to bed earlier, you can wake up earlier meaning it'll be morning instead of afternoon! But on a serious note, if you go to bed late, you're hardly going to wake up earlier if you don't get enough sleep. We all need at least 8 hours sleep, so people can manage 5-6 and I applause them for this.

Wind down in the evening
One thing doctors suggest when people suffer from insomnia is to wind down in the evening, and this is the exact same thing to when you're trying to wake up earlier in the morning. By winding down in the evening, turning off the tv, turning off any social media or game consoles your brain isn't concentrating so much on the screen which you're staring at. If you can't think of anything else to do in the evening then here are some suggestions; go for a walk, have a bath, read a book, read a newspaper, knitting, relax in bed with the lights off.

Set an alarm
This is quite an obvious factor, but setting an alarm is the best way to become a morning person. If you set an alarm, you'll wake up, if you don't set an alarm, you won't. It's very simple. However, this moves onto the next step!

Get up as soon as your alarm goes off
DO NOT PRESS SNOOZE. so so so many people press snooze on their alarm. Why do you do this? That extra 2 minutes of sleep is going to do absolutely nothing! If you set an alarm in the morning, wake up as soon as your alarm goes off, and get out of bed. Turning it off and going back to sleep is not going to make the situation any better realistically, is it?

Wake up while it's still dark and see the beauty of it
I didn't realise how beautiful the morning was until I started a job in January which required me to be on a train at 6:30am when it's still pitch black and absolutely freezing. However, during my long walks in the freezing cold and darkness, I was able to walk in silence, hear the birds singing and watch the sunrise. I mean, what more could you want? I never appreciated mornings so much until I saw the beauty of it.

Routine's always work
I am definitely a routine person, I can put my hands up too that. Routines are the best thing, for absolutely everything and they can put you in the best mood too! I absolutely love a morning routine, waking up, watching Youtube for 15 minutes, taking my dogs downstairs, taking my tablets and grabbing a fresh cup of coffee. I do this every single morning without fail and it's something I look forward too every single morning I wake up. Have a routine and you can conquer the world.

Do something fun every morning
My last tip for you is to do something fun or something you love every single morning. Not only will this put you in a positive mood once you have woken up, but it will encourage you to enjoy morning's more when you're doing something fun!

  1. I'm definitely not a morning person but because of Uni and work I do have to get up early often which I find to be quite a struggle! Will definitely keep these tips in mind for the future, especially doing something fun in the morning, feel like I'll cope with the morning much better if I've done something I like! Great read! X

  2. These are really awesome tips! I've gotten better at being a morning person and now that I'm out of Uni I've never had better habits. I love my morning routine too! I always watch Snapchat stories, make my favorite porridge, and then watch some YouTube. I'm gonna try waking up when it's dark and enjoy the sunrise more.

  3. Great post! I wasn't a morning person until I started my 9-5 job and had to be, but now I couldn't imagine it any other way! I have a little morning routine, and get up slightly earlier than I need to so I can start the day doing something just for me (usually reading with a cuppa tea!). Becca xx

  5. I love these ideas. I used to be a person to hit snooze on 4 alarms, but then found the gym to be a great motivator to start my day. My body clocks now wakes up 30 mins before my alarm, so I tend to bounce off the walls first thing :) Xx

  6. I definitely want to become a morning person, I find I'm most productive first thing in the morning where as halfway through the day I just feel like a slug and just worm myself around for the rest of it!
